August 5 Inspiration

From Colleen Teahan, Elder

…It is more blessed to give than receive.
Acts 20:35

Each week I’m reminded of how blessed I am to have a roof over my head, a refrigerator full of food, and a cozy bed to sleep in at night.  Many in our community are not as fortunate. Food insecurity has increased significantly in Delaware County due to the economic impact of COVID-19.

This summer I had the opportunity to volunteer for the Delaware County Weekend Meal Program which is an extension of the Delaware City School – Summer Lunch Program.  The lunch program was established to ensure that low-income children who normally receive free or reduced priced lunch during the school year gain access to nutritious meals during the summer months. The meal program was established to ensure families don’t go hungry over the weekend.

This summer the weekend meal bags were funded with Liberty mission dollars.

I am so thankful for…

  • The generosity of the Liberty congregation
  • The Mission Committee and Session for allocating dollars to fund the program
  • The love and dedication of all those who worked beside me each week packing bags
  • The children who joined us and experienced the joy and blessing of helping others

One way we live out our faith is by ensuring people in need of food and other resources are cared for and treated with unconditional kindness, love, respect, and dignity. It’s been wonderful to experience first-hand, Liberty’s commitment to caring for those in need in our community.

During June and July, volunteers from Liberty assembled
1,100 bags for distribution to families in our community.

God’s light and love shines bright even in the midst of a pandemic.
