July 20 Inspiration

From the Desk of Pastor Kyle Doebler

The protests for racial justice may have subsided over the past few weeks, but the issues gave rise to those protests are still very much alive. As I have reflected and listened to Black voices around me, I have discovered how much more I have to learn. Many of the participants in last month’s conversations about Race and the Gospel made the same observation. And with so much information out there, how can we listen to the voices that will best equip us to put our faith in action around these topics.

The Adult Discipleship committee invites you to participate in our Racial Justice book club. Participants will read a book that seeks to shed light on the intersection of Christian faith and the issues of race that seems to always be just below the surface, ready to rise at any moment. Then, on August 12 at 7:00 on Zoom, I will lead us in a discussion of our book.

Our first book will be The Very Good Gospel by writer, activist, and Christian thinker Lisa Sharon Harper. We invite you to pick up a copy of this engaging book and join us for what I know will be a lively and life-giving conversation.
