Camp Liberty!

A message from Dawn Parr and Liberty’s VBS Committee

Typically, July at Liberty is full of excitement and all things VBS. During this time, my eyes and hands would be worn out from writing lessons and preparing manuals. The decorations crew would be busy with circular saws, hammers, paint brushes, and staple guns, while building an amazing stage set. The pastors would be memorizing lines; the music crew finalizing choreography. Steve Banks would be working his magic on the many special effects for the week. The art, snack, games, and mission teams would finish gathering materials for their areas and the VBS committee would review every last detail of the schedule in preparation of welcoming 300 smiling faces!

This year, Liberty’s VBS will look much different. When it was decided to cancel VBS, the committee recognized an opportunity. We knew the importance of spreading the Gospel message—especially this year.

After much prayer and planning we developed Camp Liberty.

Camp Liberty will be a take-home program for all children who had registered for VBS 2020. In this three-day program, each participant will receive a camp ‘backpack’ of goodies complete with a daily story book, craft materials, game and snack instructions, and a mission outreach. Additionally, we will offer the story books on the VBS webpage for the public to enjoy.

Each day during Camp Liberty, they will learn about a portion of the Tabernacle and about Jesus!

How do these two go together?

First Day of Camp: Jesus is the Way
The Tabernacle has one opening—one way inside the tent. Jesus teaches us that He is the One and Only Way to God the Father.

Second Day of Camp: Jesus is the Truth
Just inside the doorway of the Tabernacle is the Altar of Sacrifice. We cannot be accepted by God unless we accept the Truth of Jesus’ sacrifice for you and me!

Third Day of Camp: Jesus is the Life
At the back of the Tabernacle is the tent of the Most Holy Place, where God dwells.  When we accept the Eternal Life that Jesus gives us through His sacrifice, we can live with Him forever!

We humbly ask that you pray for Camp Liberty.

We would like for participants to share this message with their friends and family as they read the stories, create the craft and snacks, and play games.  What a wonderful message to let everyone know the truth of the Gospel found in John 14:6, “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
