June 16 – Happy Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day

During my childhood, my father was just a passing visitor in my home.  He rarely stayed for more than 48- hours, and one day he stopped coming home altogether. I thought that was normal until I met my forever friend, Julie. She has been blessed with a very large family and five siblings.  Her father was always present, involved in the children’s daily lives and he is still attentive to their needs. I began to realize there was an emptiness in my heart because I did not have a father figure in my world. When I left home for college, I met my future husband. When I began to visit his family home I felt the warmth, welcoming and fullness of life.  It reminded me of Julie’s family, and then I made the connection. These fathers who give so much, do so because they love their Father in Heaven.

My father-in-law introduced me to Jesus when he gave me my first Bible, (now well-worn and much loved).  Through encouragement and prayer, I found my Heavenly Father. He is the “Father to the fatherless” (Psalm 68:5), and He “provides every good gift”, (James 1:17).  He calls me His child (1 John 3:1), and the greatest gift is my personal relationship with His Son, Jesus (Isaiah 9:6).

This Father’s Day, rejoice that you are part of a very big and happy family!  Fathers, look to your Heavenly Father to guide you and let us all lean on the “one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all” (Ephesians 4:6).
