Summertime

From the Desk of Dawn Parr, Children’s Ministry Director

Summertime for me has always been synonymous with the beach. I grew up on the shores of Lake Erie. My summer months were filled with boating, skiing, swimming, and meeting friends on the sand dunes near my house. It was wonderful. My sister and I still talk about how we miss the sound of the waves from our bedroom windows at night.

As an adult, I gravitate to the shore. Whether it is the Atlantic, the Great Lakes or even the Scioto, my soul is replenished when I can spend time near the water’s edge. We learn from the Bible that water produces life. “He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water. Which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither.”Psalm 1:3

Today’s world will easily parch your well-being. When we walk away from the water that sustains us, which is Christ Jesus, the thirst you need to quench your spirit will not be satisfied. How do we quench this thirst as we live in the desert of daily circumstances?

Jesus tells us plainly. John 4:14 states, “whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst, but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

For me, I do not thirst when I stay away from social media and the 24/7 news cycle. I spend conscious, quality time in prayer. I read my Bible and I keep in fellowship with other believers. However, the moment I turn from ‘the water that yields fruit’ I begin to wither.

As we begin our summer months, I pray you take time to quench your soul. Ask Jesus for His living water and allow Him to provide the well spring of water for now and eternity.

Amen.
