March 23 Inspiration

“Later that evening, the disciples were meeting behind locked doors because they were afraid. Suddenly, Jesus was standing there among them! ‘Peace be with you,’ he said.” ~John 20:19

FROM THE DESK OF PASTOR KYLE

When I returned back to the States from Honduras on Friday night, I returned home to a new reality. Never before had I been told—let alone ordered—not to leave my home unless it was absolutely essential. I’ve been through hurricanes, blizzards, and ice storms. I’ve gone weeks without water or power. But this time, it’s different. Fear makes everything different.

I think I can understand a bit more how the disciples felt that first Easter night. Aware that danger is lurking, but not quite sure where it lies. Hiding away in a locked room, not quite sure what to do next. But then, Jesus breaks in and announces, “Peace be with you.”

Neither locked doors nor fearful hearts can keep Jesus from being right here among us, as close to us as we need him. It is precisely in our moments of fear that the peace of Jesus breaks in and becomes available to us.

So, as you process how our world has changed over the past few weeks, look around to see if Jesus hasn’t broken in to give you the peace of his presence with you.
